Blog Series: Meet the Artists
We acknowledge that we are operating in Mi'kma'ki, the ancestral and traditional lands of the Mi'kmaq, which spans the regions of present-day Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, parts of Quebec, New Brunswick and Maine. This territory is covered by the "Treaties of Peace and Friendship" which recognizes the Mi'kmaq and Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet) title to the land and established ongoing laws between the British and First Nations. The "Treaties of Peace and Friendship" are still recognized by the Government of Canada today, and did not ever contain the surrender or transfer of land or resources. As such, these are unceded territories and are the past, present and future original homelands of the Mi'kmaq. As passionate supporters of arts and culture, we are learning more about how our business can be a positive influence on the path toward reconciliation. We understand that we must learn more about the rich history of Turtle Island (North America) and it's Indigenous communities to better understand our roles as residents, friends, neighbours and stewards of the land.
